What is the Irmo Fire High Intensity Team?

The Irmo Fire High Intensity Team is a dedicated group of guys within the Irmo Fire District focused on promoting physical fitness, health, and wellness in the community through participation in public events and competitions.

What will 2026 look like?

The Irmo Fire High Intensity Team will participate in 8–12 fitness competitions throughout 2026 (listed above). In addition, the team will host 4 of their own community-focused events at the Irmo Moore Park. These events will include open workouts, fire safety demonstrations, and family-friendly activities.

Can I attend these events/competitions?

Yes, all events and competitions are open to the public unless stated otherwise!

2026 Community Events

Younger Tomorrow Longevity Seminar

February 7, 2026 – Columbia, SC

This engaging seminar is designed to educate and empower attendees on the importance of biological health versus chronological age, while providing real, achievable, and actionable steps they can begin implementing immediately to prioritize their overall health and well-being.

Lake Murray Polar Plunge

(Law Enforcement Torch Run)

February 14, 2026 – Lexington, SC

The Lake Murray Polar Plunge is part of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run Campaign and 100% of the funds raised directly benefit Special Olympics programs around our state. By plunging, you’re creating more opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to experience the life-changing benefits of participating in Special Olympics — all at no cost to themselves or their families.

#1 Community Event – Workout

March 21, 2026 – Irmo, SC

All are welcome to come and join the IFD in a workout created by Burn Boot Camp. The workout will be scalable for all fitness levels and the event will feature booths from our sponsors as well as food trucks.

#2 Community Event – Fire Safety

June 20, 2026 – Irmo, SC

This event’s main focus will be fire safety and education within the community, with demonstrations of our fire gear, correct use of fire extinguishers, and more. This event will also feature booths from our sponsors as well as food trucks.

#3 Community Event – 5K or 10K

August 22, 2026 – Irmo, SC

This official 5K/10K will take place in Irmo and give the community the ability to compete alongside their local first responders. Registrants will receive event shirts and finisher medals. All proceeds of this race will go to our charity of choice.

#4 Community Event – Extrication Demo

October 24, 2026 – Irmo, SC

With the help of a towing company, this event will include a demonstration of us using our JAWS equipment to cut a car and make access to a patient. The event is also expected to include a CPR/AED and First Aid portion, with help from Lexington County EMS.

2026 Competitions

Spartan Race – Super 10K

March 15, 2026 – Conyers, GA

This course throws everything at you — rolling hills, deep southern woods, unforgiving Georgia red clay, and mud pits that will test your grit. Expect water crossings and technical terrain that demand strength, speed, and strategy.

Fight for Air Climb

March 28, 2026 – Charlotte, NC

Breathing is essential to life. From our first breath to our last, every breath counts. That’s why the American Lung Association is dedicated to supporting healthy lungs and clean air, making an impact in your community and across the nation.

Vertex Pump and Run

April 18, 2026 – Cayce, SC

In the competition, participants bench press a percentage of their body weight. Each lift (up to a maximum of 50 reps) reduces their 5-kilometer run time by 30 seconds. There will be ten (10) age/gender divisions. Depending on age, men must bench press 60% to 100% of their weight, and women 40% to 70% of their weight.

Spartan Race – Beast 21K or Ultra 50K

May 2, 2026 – Spring Lake, NC

Don’t underestimate McCormick Farms in Fayetteville — with over 1,000 acres of demanding terrain, including dense forests, a 200-foot deep quarry, and steep riverbanks, this course will test your technical skills and demand you embrace the challenge.

Get Your Rear in Gear – 5K

May 30, 2026 – Columbia, SC

Lives are being cut short by colon cancer, and many of these deaths could be prevented through early detection and screening. The money raised at this event stays local to prevent early deaths by increasing screening rates, reducing health disparities, educating the community, supporting local patients and survivors, and funding research.

Famously Hot Pink – 5K or 10K

October 11, 2026 (Tentative) – Columbia, SC

Thousands of runners have been helping the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation kick breast cancer to the curb through the Famously Hot Pink Race. Raising $12.6 million, this race has helped fund valuable equipment in the fight against breast cancer.

Spartan Race – Sprint 5K

November 21, 2026 – Newberry, SC

The Carolinas Spartan Race at Johnson Family Farm in Newberry is set to be a thrilling challenge for racers of all levels. This fan-favorite venue offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and rugged obstacles, ensuring an unforgettable race experience.

The workout is designed to be welcoming for all experience levels, with modifications available for beginners and seasoned athletes alike.
